The Position

Here at We Make Good, we are always on the lookout for new design talent. Over the summer, we have an opportunity for four designers to work with us to develop their own small range of products. Who are we looking for? Put simply, if you are a product/furniture/textile designer who is motivated by social justice and a fair, equal society, this may be a fulfilling and rewarding opportunity for you.

Behind our design brand lies the best part of our story; all our makers are from backgrounds of disadvantage and are being supported through our 15 social-enterprise manufacturing partners to develop skills, engage in paid, meaningful work and make a better life for themselves and their family. Makers come from a variety of backgrounds including refugee, disability, prison/probation and Traveller. Working with us is being part of a movement to change shopping and gift buying into a force for good.

The four selected designers will receive a payment of €500 for design and a portion of the €500 prototyping and materials budget. We will support prototyping of your product with our manufacturing partners to ensure the products meet standards. Following that, we photograph, launch and market products with the aim of maximising media coverage. We will sell your products through our own webshop and across multiple platforms, as well as in our pop-up shops. Designers receive 5% commission on all sales.

Our brand exists to create opportunities and pathways for makers from disadvantaged backgrounds as well as opportunities for Irish designers to bring their ideas to market. If you would like to be part of this project, please email us at with your CV/portfolio, with images of your work, and an outline of your availability, and a description of the product you would like to work on and any images / mood boards to help us understand your design interests. We have capacity to work with the following materials:

  • Wood
  • Metal
  • Textile and construction
  • Machine knitting
  • Weaving / basket making
  • Textile Print (screen and block)
  • Paper printing (screen and block)

We will be making decisions on the designers we are working with in mid July, but will accept CVs on an ongoing basis.

If the craft methods you are interested can be taught and is not on this list, let us know, we may be able to find a new partner or develop existing ones.   Also, by sending us your CV you are agreeing for us to keep this on file should any other paid design opportunities emerge, which we may contact you about. We are currently developing over 30 products and need occasional contracted design support for this process.   If you would like to know more give Caroline or Joan a call on 01 872 0030
